Nine Phoenix riders joined over 200 others to mark the passing of the circuit that has been
home to so much of our racing, promoting and tea drinking over the years.
Pete, Evelyn, Douglas, Sarah S, Sarah N, David, Abi, Emma and Neil completed
230 miles between them and finished by leaving our mark on Oxo for the last
time as the sun went down. Here’s to as many happy times at the replacement circuit when it materialises…..
Liz Rice & Phil Pearl just returned from cycling across the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. The 11-day journey (organised by KE Adventure) covered something like 880km, with an awesome 15,800 vertical metres of ascent – and 18,200 of descent!
We rode on the main, and vitually only, road across the country, and this was mostly single-track tarmac with the sheerest cliff-sides imaginable, with traffic consisting of the odd car, and a brightly-coloured truck passing perhaps every 20 minutes. A typical day’s cycling might involve riding uphill on a fairly consistent 4-5% for a twisty 40km, rewarded with a hot drink at the top from an amazingly supportive camp crew, then (once several extra layers of clothing had been added for warmth) downhill for another 50km. This is a land where most people still wear traditional dress, so our London Phoenix kit turned a few heads! If you’re interested in seeing more about our trip, we’re writing about our experiences on this website and we took lots of photos.
We are a group of London-based cyclists, who get together for races and training rides. We have a website forum as our virtual clubhouse, and instead of regular weekly club rides from a set place we arrange to meet up for mountain bike, road or cyclocross rides, races and time trials from a variety of venues. We also meet up socially every month.
See the on-road and off-road sections for news on upcoming events we're doing as well as our recent achievements.
Joining us is easy, fill out the form and send it to us. If you have any queries please contact us.
