Spot the difference? – 19 May

Neil, George, Phil & LizNeil, Tim, Phil & Liz

Apparently there was some sort of minor football fixture on Saturday, but a few of us took advantage of the sunshine and relatively quiet roads to spin out from Enfield to the windmill at Cromer. (That’s Cromer in Hertfordshire, not Norfolk, so we could make it back in time for a nice cup of tea and a biscuit.)

Hertfordshire club ride – 28 April

George & Matina’s club ride was a great success both in terms of weather and turnout. 11 members in their London Phoenix jerseys successfully completed a 110 km challenge in hilly Hertfordshire. The route started from High Barnet and progressed past Hertford towards the villages north of Stevenage and then back south towards the Welwyn area. It was a challenging route that included lots of climbing sections. We all stopped for a break at the villge of Weston (north of Stevenage). Finally we all made it back to High Barnet for the all important tea, cakes, fruit juices and biscuits. Can’t wait for the next one!

London Phoenix Spring MTB Action

London Phoenix mountainbikers were out in force during May at the Gorrick 100 – where we had success with Abigail winning the women’s 5 lap 85 Km race and Paul Troughton gaining a top 5 place in the men’s 5 lap race; at the Merida Penrith MTB Marathon - where David Abi, Nick and Dan braved the rugged terrain of the Lake District to complete this gruelling event; the final round of the Gorrick Spring Series; and the first races in the Beastway at Hainault series.

Southern XC mountain bike race, Mapledurham – 22 April 2007

Dan (wake up and smell the bluebells) Jenkins
The opening round of the Southern XC race series, saw three intrepid London Phoenix riders, David Steele, Abi Armstrong and Dan Jenkins leave London for the Mapledurham estate on the banks of the Thames near Reading.

The course was dry and very dusty, fast flowing singletrack, plenty of climbing and some fantastic bluebell meadows. After a fast paced start to the Super Masters race, Dan and David made steady progress to finish 17th and 18th respectively. Abi finished her Super Master women’s race on the podium in 3rd place. Her prize money was put to very good use ensuring post race fluid replacement at the riverside pub on the way home.

We are a group of London-based cyclists, who get together for races and training rides. We have a website forum as our virtual clubhouse, and instead of regular weekly club rides from a set place we arrange to meet up for mountain bike, road or cyclocross rides, races and time trials from a variety of venues. We also meet up socially every month.

See the on-road and off-road sections for news on upcoming events we're doing as well as our recent achievements.
