Dabbling on the dark side of competitive cycling, London Phoenix Francis Cooper took part in his first Triathlon on May 5th.
Finishing in 1:12:21 (97th/350) was a breeze in comparison to the 0430 start to make it to signing on at 6am. The race was centred around the beautiful Hampton open air pool with a 21k time trial alongside the Thames and a 5k run in Bushy Park; the idyllic setting compensating somewhat for the fundamental flaw in the mix: running remains wrong. Next stop Worcester Tri on the 22nd June and the London Olympic on August 10th.

Other Phoenix considering this form of pain should contact Francis through the forum or sign up for the final Thames Turbo of the season. The Thames Turbo Club are extra welcoming to first-timers with marshals supporting everyone by name at all points on the course. Come on in, the water’s fine.

Yet again the Bristol Bikefest delivered hot and dry mtb racing over a great course with some heroic efforts by London Phoenix riders. Those who couldn’t make it missed a great weekend. Also see our video of the first lap.

Fourteen London Phoenixes raced the twisty singletrack, bombholes and leg-sapping climbs of the Bristol Bikefest course in the 12 hour race on 9 June or the 6 hour race on 10 June 2008. This was the second of the season’s mountain bike team events after the Enduro 6 in April. Other ones to look forward to include Mountain Mayhem on 21-22 June, Bonty24-12 in July and Sleepless in the Saddle in August. More photos on the off-road page and watch our video of the first lap.

On 22nd June the London Phoenix women’s team will make its proud debut at the National Team Series race at Twickenham. (We’ve had a team in women’s events before, but this is a first for us in the Team Series.)
