London Phoenix riders Stuart Lockyear and Carl Hutchings won the vets team race in the TransWales in August 2008. The week-long event consisted of 5 mtb time trials plus a daily transition stage of around 75km that had to be completed within a set time. The pair set an early lead and maintained it throughout the week, battling the wet and windy weather as much as other competitors. David Steele and Abi Armstrong also took part achieving a top ten place in the mixed pairs category.

London Phoenix were back at Bontrager Twentyfour12 mtb race at Newnham Park, Plymouth on 26-27 July 2008 with two teams and a solo rider. The womens team – Sara, Liz, Abi and Geraldine competed succesfully for the 24 hour womens team title for the third year running, with 26 laps of a superb 12 km course. Solo rider Oliver Herdsman achieved 18th place with 12 laps in 12 hours in his first mtb endurance event. The men’s 12 hour team placed 7th in their category with 18 laps in 12 hours.
We’ll put some more photos up soon, meantime event photos are here.
Guest access
Welcome to London Phoenix cycling club. You have been invited to have guest access to the club to help you decide whether to join. During this time we encourage you to come along to rides, races and social events to meet, ride and race with other members. If you are not sure if you are fast enough, or too fast, then join us on rides described as “social†or at an event where you can ride at your own pace, eg the events organised by Trailbreak or Evans.
Guest access to the club is normally offered for up to 4 weeks. You can join anytime, but we prefer you to have been on a ride or race with other members first. We’ll let you know how to pay when you are ready. If you need a British Cycling licence to take part in a race, you must join the club first.
Register for the forum (the option in the top right corner) with your name (Firstname Surname) as username. The membership secretary will authorise your registration and you’ll be able to start using the forum and going on club rides as a guest.
Rules and expectations of members and guests
You must wear your helmet when you join us for social or training rides, and races and other events normally make this requirement too. When you come on a ride you are also expected to make sure that your bike is in good working order and not falling to bits and that you bring with you a basic toolkit, pump and spare tube. We are not averse to a bit of bike maintenance en route, but don’t push your luck.
Regents Park training rules
You are welcome to join us for the road training sessions that take place every Tuesday for an hour around the inner circle of Regents Park. The group meets at York Bridge or the inner circle at 6.30pm.
This is a training ride and introduction to group riding, it is NOT a race. For safety and to enable everyone to benefit from the training, all riders must keep to the following ground rules:
1. The format is for 45 minutes of group riding at a social pace followed by 15 minutes of sprints for those who want to. This will also depend on the traffic in the inner circle.
2. Those who arrive late, or are so inclined, can continue to ride after 7.30pm but the start time remains at 6.30pm as that suits the majority.
3. London Phoenix members must wear LP kit at all time as far as is practicable.
4. Experienced members must take charge, control the bunch, be prepared to enforce discipline, be prepared to abandon if too dangerous (apparently there was a wedding party recently causing lots of traffic) and to question non-LP riders.
5. Guests and invited riders must introduce themselves to someone wearing London Phoenix kit.

We are a group of London-based cyclists, who get together for races and training rides. We have a website forum as our virtual clubhouse, and instead of regular weekly club rides from a set place we arrange to meet up for mountain bike, road or cyclocross rides, races and time trials from a variety of venues. We also meet up socially every month.
See the on-road and off-road sections for news on upcoming events we're doing as well as our recent achievements.
Joining us is easy, fill out the form and send it to us. If you have any queries please contact us.
