End of season finale – Phoenix at X Team Champs 2010

London Phoenix rounded off another great year of mud, snow, ice and sweat with a great showing at the end of season Team Champs (our ‘B Team’ secured 3rd place overall). The on bike footage above is taken from top MTB LP’er Paul Troughton’s bike, and he’s also shown casually bunny hopping a fallen tree later on in the film. Awesome…

We’ve had 15 riders from Phoenix give it their all this season and they’ve pulled off some great results, including a win and a whole raft of impressive placings across the senior, vets and women’s categories. And even when we haven’t had great results (cough) we’ve had a great time, and next year promises to be even more exciting, with Cyclo-Cross now officially the fastest growing cycle sport in the UK.

So find out how easy it is to get into the friendliest, most accessible and muddiest sport in cycling, and to race with a club where we’re all winners, whatever the weather, just get in touch.

Phoenix helps launch new women’s racing league

London Women's Cycle Racing

London Phoenix is proud to be one of the founding clubs supporting the new London Women’s Cycle Racing League. Designed to encourage greater participation from women at all levels of road racing, the league in 2010 – sponsored by look mum no hands!- consists of a variety of different events including road, circuit, criterium races and CTT time trials. Events run from March to August, and points are awarded for individual and team performances.

We run women’s rides every month, and non-members are very welcome to come along to get a feel for what the club’s like. If you’re considering having a go at racing, these social rides are a great opportunity to have a chat about it with racers from our club. There’s no limit to the number of riders in a team, so whatever level you’re racing at, from complete novice to Elite, you’d be welcome in the London Phoenix team.

London Phoenix at the Hog Hill Winter Series – 2010

This winter has seen London Phoenix racing on a weekly basis over at Hog Hill, a purpose built, 2km cycle track nestled on the top of a windy ridge in North East London. This great venue offers riders and spectators alike stunning panoramas, along with a cafe, changing rooms and showers, off-road trails and bike hire facilities.

Affectionally known as the Hoggenberg – in reference to the short but punishing climbs found in and around Flanders -, the hill at Hog Hill is challenging to say the least. During the course of an hour long race riders sprint up it between 20 and 30 times, and just getting round and sticking with the bunch is an achievement that can take a few weeks to master.

Filmed in early February, this video features Matt Harper, Chris Dick, James Wallace and Ben Knowles in the E/1/2/3 Cat race (riders are classified by British Cycling points scored over a season, ranging from 4th Cat to Elite), with Matt and Ben earning valuable points by finishing in the top ten.

You can find out more about racing with Phoenix by getting in touch. You don’t need to be super fit, just up for the challenge!
