Congratulations to Rob Moore on winning SERRL 20 and gaining first category status. Report of the race below comes from Rob himself.

“A second time at the Thursday evening cyclopark and this time we were on the shortened circuit. First 20 mins of racing saw all the favourites escape into a 5 man group including myself, Hugo Humphries, Billy Whenman (both previous winners) Luke Ryan and Will Prat all of us strong riders.

The pace was relentless, everyone had their eye on the other and was a battle of who could keep the pace up. After 45 mins of racing we lapped the field with a 1:30 min gap then with 5 to go the fireworks were set off mostly by Luke Ryan who was controlling things. I just kept on the wheels trying not to get too excited and after a close call nearly getting dropped in another barrel of attacks.

After neutralising another attack and not wanting to be around for a sprint I kept my head down and went as fast as I could down the hill and round the sweeping corner. To my surprise I’d distanced the entire group by a large margin and had no choice but to give it everything for one more lap. With luck on my side the others were hesitating to lead it out on the final lap and kept the distance. I just had to get up the hill one final time, Hugo was gaining fast but ran out of road with me crossing the line with around four bike lengths to spare.

What a way to secure my first category licence and after years of trying as well.”
