They were sintered pads (at least they look identical to the new sintered pads I've fitted and not like the organic ones I ordered in error). They were a bit rubbish at first so I spent some time bedding them in properly and they were great after that, as Stuart can testify having on ridden it the previous week and done a couple of stoppies. Those pads had been on for a year though, and whilst I'm used to adjusting them after a race or a long ride, Sunday was something else altogether. I think something must have got stuck into them as you can see the state of the retaining clip, and the fact that there's a hole in the pad - it couldn't be described as 'even wear'! The retaining clip was poking into the disc and making an awful racket for the last lap and a half.

It's time for me to replace all the cables now anyway I think - it's not shifting cleanly and they're still the original outers. Any recommendations for inline adjusters? I don't have interrupt levers, never found the need. It's still the original setup so if inline adjusters were supplied, I never saw them.

That's an interesting test case on pad wear Chris - do you have single piston brakes? if so, which side looked worse for wear? the moving side or the static side?

Personally I'm surprised the new Spyre dual piston brakes have not taken off. maybe they're too expensive to make price point bikes like Planet X or other major retailers, but the dual piston feature would suggest they'd cope better with wear than the BB7s, as you can adjust bike point with an in-line barrel adjuster - depending on how well you can race with only 1 hand on the bars while fiddling with them

Yep - BB7's are single piston and that's the moving side with the hole in it.

I've not had a problem with these before and they're a very simple design, I guess it's the first time I've actually had the rotors underwater. The ones on the rear seem to be just heavily worn and need adjusting, but based on Bruce's comments and the state of the front one, I think it must have picked up a stone or a large piece of grit to put a hole in it like that.

Examined the BB7s on Monday and front pads just needed retightening rear however worn totally away on inside probably due to being set up unevenly to accommodate two different wheels.

Given have survived half a season without adjustment just going to replace pads and perhaps do bit of post race tightening down . Probably have to abandon trying to use two wheel sets and accept need a spare bike .

Despite all this and entertaining experience of riding 3 laps on Sunday sans freins definitely prefer discs to cantis which are also fiddly in a different way.

Though notice Lars using discs at Spa.

Annoyingly, still not feeling great so gonna skip Norwich. If we'd been racing at Welwyn (i.e. half an hour up the road) I'd have gone but 2 1/2 hours in the car is too far on the off chance I feel okay when I get there.

With all that sand it seems odd to use so little of it. Good luck guys - I shall be skiing that weekend.

That looks amazing, I'm sorry I might be in Toronto at the time.

Broome Heath is always a stand out course and the new woodland section will be interesting, though it doesn't look like we'll get the traditional snow. The sand sections were pretty hardcore last year so a return to using the one sandy run up will be welcome for many and you'll probably have seen enough of it once you've clambered up a few times. It's a bit of a distant location but there's always the bonus of a trip to Southwold and a pint of Adnams.

Isn't the St Peter's Brewery nearby too?

St Peters not that far away but fiddly to find and as is set in countryside very like West Flanders always makes me think of Westvlettern . A St Peters Super X would be good

St Peter's is only a few miles away but it's still Bungay and in that part of the world you're either from Halesworth or Bungay and we'll be coming down from Halesworth.

One of my new favourite courses easily! Conditions were also favourable yesterday. Great climbs just rideable but for the sandy run up. Slipped on roots on a left hander on the first lap falling into fourth then fifth place and there I stayed for a few laps until pipped into sixth. My handicap this weekend? Beer friday and saturday? Not enough fight or fitness? The latter I'd say. Breathing was vastly improved thankfully, well at least after a few laps letting it settle. Two puffs on my newly prescribed inhaler twenty minutes before the whistle seemed to help! Slighly more optimistic about things in that respect now. Really great course though - worth the trip. Well done to Bruce who came second in his race! The seniors was a hell of a ding dong, neck and neck for Steve James and the ultimate winner Sean Dunlea (a mere youth). Matt stayed with them for half the race until settling into a comfortable third.
