Veldrijden corner

Post by StevenDrew » Sun Oct 13, 2013 10:25 pm

As a way of keeping our CX witterings out of the way of crazy stunts on BMXs and penny farthings on the You Tube thread, here's 90 seconds of highlights of Svenness from a very sensible first round of the Bpost Bank Trofee at Ronse today :D

That hill in the men's race is nuts. Wonder if they all ran in in practice but race nerves/competitive instinct make them ride it. Of course if they all had discs none of that would've happened.

I want to see a cross race but battling crowds like this is nuts: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/photos/ ... ige/282485

Yeah, but that's the Zonhoven "sandpit" innit! If you walked 200 metres down the course you'll be leaning against the tape and there'll be no one within 10m...

When's the baby due? We'll have to organise something that you can do before the big day...

10 November is the expected date. I'd rather go AFTER the kid arrives and her parent's are in town to help out. I don't understand them so much anyway so it's not like they'll miss my scintillating conversation.

5 Deep Thoughts on Cross with Adam Craig

Some superb advice here:

Don't be afraid to touch the course tape here and there, think of ski racing; round arcs and tight apexes.
Lots of people ride a road bike or mountain bike during the week. Those are not cross bikes. The road bike will make you tight and timid; the mountain bike will make you overly bold.

I like the last one. Especially now it's getting muddy, the road really isn't a great training environment come Sunday.

I'm interested in his warming up thoughts. I always feel the turbo is a good idea before a race because, in my mind, it warms me up and sorts my asthma. But I've still not worked out if I'm playing tricks with my head...

Len - watch the way a lot of 'em ride the rut in the Svenness 2.3 film. It's incredible... Mind, the less said about Kevin Pauwels the better

Or watch it on the UCI YouTube channel in English. Also with the womens race, featuring one M Vos.
