It's reassuring though that they only say that the bike must have brakes, not that the the brakes have to be working. Otherwise this could be seen to exclude cantis, along the lines of: "You cyclocross tradionalists with your squeaking cantis, patchwork of components, muddy shoes and black socks - you can f*ck right off. Don't spoil our pictures with your sloppy appearance. This is Supercross!"

Seems to be a lot of negativity about something which doesn't fit into the traditional cross format. Is this because its Rapha or due to some emotional tie to Ally Pally?

I for one am no Rapha lover (or Ally pally come to that  ) but I'm excited by a novel format and happy to support something which sits outside the norm so I'm very happy to give it a go and save my criticism until after the event.

Stuart - I don't think we're entirely serious with our criticism. There are enough traditional cross races around, and if this gets people excited about the sport of cycling (whatever the discipline), that is certainly a good thing. I'd even come to watch if I was in London that weekend.
I just liked Ally Pally and am sad it's gone...

As a new event I'm fine with it (even if I've no more interest in entering than any other non-CX race), it's just a shame it's replacing what I thought was a great event (that also happened to be on my doorstep).

Looks like Steven & I will have to step up and bring CX back to the palace if we can.

Hi Steve,

Apologies for not messaging you sooner, it's been an absolutely hectic few months and the London round of Super Cross was only confirmed few weeks ago!

To cut a long story short, following a meeting between Simon Mottram and the head of Central Saint Martins, the famous art college in King's Cross, an idea arose to hold an urban cross event which went around the grounds of the King's Cross square and through the art school.

This sounded like a brilliant idea and something not done in London before, however the safety bods at the private estate which manage the area got involved and posted some concerns about safety and crowd management which delayed us being able to confirm the event and start planning. These issues are now sorted and we've finally got the entries live.

As an urban CX event it's not recognised by BC as a real cross race so there won't be BC points, however we're working to get some really outstanding obstacles built and incorporating existing features like the trees, cobbles and fountains to make the race exciting. Not to mention it will be passing through the art school!

I'd love to have Phoenix involved if you would still like to be, and of course would like to see lots of red and yellow jerseys racing too!

Here's the sign up link if you'd like to pass it along: http://www.riderhq.com/events/68863/rap ... ss-round-3

If you have time to have a proper chat about it just give me a call on 0207 482 9171.

All the best,
Jess

More from Rapha.
the course capacity is only 40 due to some narrow sections
Get in there quick if you fancy it.
