What bike?
Hi all,
Thought I'd stick this here. I'm looking at getting a CX bike for off road rides, and maybe a bit of racing next season. I've been borrowing Ben's Tifosi for blasts round Burgess Park, and am loving the mud!
My experience of cantis has been largely negative, and as all my road stuff is 10 speed campagnolo kit compatibility is not really an issue so I am thinking of taking the disc route. I want to spend <£1,500 and pay on finance. I would like something that doesn't need lots of upgrades immediately.
I'm considering this
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBOOPICKRI ... reviewstab
Which seems to get fairly good feedback across the board, and is a lot of bike for the money. There are a couple of carbon bikes from On One, under the Tomac and Viner marques, which seem lighter and have a more racy CX geometry. Not sure if anyone has any thoughts on either of those?
Evans have this http://www.evanscycles.com/products/can ... 31#answers which would fit the bill (Stuart avert your eyes).
There are a few lower end Ridleys, etc, and that di2 Felt that Will helpfully pointed out. That would fit the bill. Anything I haven't considered that I should?

If you can get anything with CX1 on it I'd recommend it

Re: What bike?
Liam, all my old campag 10 speed kit is now on the cx bike and works well. I do have mini-vs though, and they do work well with the campagnolo levers. Never had a problem with the clearance either.
This allows me to use my road wheels when required.
These are the mini v's:

Still using an ultra torque chainset, with cx chainrings (46-36). I did have to use the dremel to get the chainrings fitted correctly.

Let's be clear. But not if it's written on the top tube and it says TREK on the down tubeChris Clague wrote:If you can get anything with CX1 on it I'd recommend it

Re: What bike?
Firstly - the Tomac and Viners are from the same mould as Planet X own bikes, so don't pay extra for the name.
What size are you? I know where there's a medium Giant TCX 2 (105, discs) going for £719 this weekend. Or I also know where there is stock sizes 2016 caadx with Mavis wheel upgrade at £1050.

My Collage is a 56 with 130mm stem and set back seatpost. Not sure if a longer top tube and shorter stem (so a 58) would be a better option? That is what Ben's bike is and it seemed pretty comfortable.

Re: What bike?
If want a decent first X bike can't do much better than a Ridley XRide . Are usually lots of good deals around and can get them for under £1000 if lucky . All now come with discs and Chris Young has been winning Trophy races on one so do the job. A XFire feels slightly nicer and may be some end of range ones knocking around as are being discontinued .

Re: What bike?
I agree with the X-Ride recommendation. I've had mine for a few years now and have got no intention of upgrading to something else.

Re: What bike?
Good bike, rubbish service from fatbirds though. Bought one for Hugo (he loves it) - they said it was in stock and took my money then sat on it for nearly two months and didn't even give a toss enough to apologise or make nice. Customer service very poor.

Ignoring the whole "discs are heavy and rubbish" argument, this looks very nice:

"all round versatility" is a euphemism for something not good
