Tyres

I tremble as I type this.....
But anyone got any recommendations of CX tyres for doing trails and forests....occasionally muddy..... sometimes gravelly. Not racing so mostly want something that doesn't leave me sliding at the first sight of mud but with lots of puncture resistance.

The choices seem endless.... still unsure of going tubeless.

I've no particular recommendation, and can't see what I currently have because the bike's in the garage.

I use my schwalbe landcruisers for training, mainly because they roll better than more knobbly tyres on the tarmac sections. Plus they are puncture resistant, offer OK grip on a range of surfaces, and are dirt cheap.

I use thick butyl inner tubes, specific to the width of the tyre, the thickest I can find. Narrow/undersized tubes blow. Think of the skewer through a balloon party trick

All my tyres have been shit choices according to a least one pundit or other but I've only ever had one puncture and that was when I flew downhill and banged into rocky hole.
I've left landcruisers on for winter as I'm hoping to do some rocky/gravel stuff, training for the Marrakesh Etape. I don't think they'd puncture if I rode over tacks! But they are heavy as.

Chain reaction has great choice of CX tyres.

Would have been zero punctures if you were tubeless as they eliminate the risk of pinch flats...but what do I know? x

Presumably you were on MTB and not CX? Nanos are 40mm which I'm guessing must be pretty draggy on trails be tarmac?

Got them on a CX bike

A bit if a slog on tarmac but do-able however they are great off road and don't slip all over the place like the previous victoria 30mm I had on

I have the tubeless version but I think they also do a regular clincher.

Land Cruisers weigh a ton and should be avoided unless you're doing the 3PCX, your name is Dan or you don't want to spend more then 10 quid on the tyre.

Coincidentally I've got Schwalbe G Ones on order to fit tubeless to the Hunt wheels I've also ordered to convert my CX into the marginally different "gravel" bike for use when I move to Girona. So its good to have the Stven-ness seal of approval.

Oh and +1 on the Land Cruisers - avoid except in the very rarefied circumstances outlined

I’ve been running G-Ones for about a year or so. Started out getting them for the beach race. Great, but not for anything muddy. For the Hell of the North they were spot on.
