Hell of the North Cotswolds (MTB & 'cross)

Post by Steve Hanks » Tue Nov 18, 2014 8:17 am

HONC 2015 entries open 10th January 6am. http://www.winchcombecc.org.uk/honc/

100k or 50k of road open to MTB & 'Cross, get in early for what is a beautiful off road Sportive with a 1200 rider limit. I'm in for a sub 5h:15 target 100k, despite it not being a race...

Well, now's your chance.... :)

Its great, not very technical for an MTB, a fair amount of double track and several miles of road. Some "nice" hills...

I'd like to. But its a very early start. And the weekend after the Ronde.

Looks like cross bike is the way to go

Although actually as I found out last year only and hour and ten drive from London via Aylesbury, and with all the facilities inc. the local sports club showers etc you could ask for.

As for which bike, there's only one way to prove that... but you gotta be in it to win it as they say..

Am curious about this too as I used to live over that way a lifetime a go. No real experience of these things except for one adventure-x sportive of similar distance in the lakes. For that one there were enough long climbs and road sections that CX bike was definitely the way to go.

Sounds great... But clashes with the Roubaix weekend.

Looks good might well do. Good time of year to do something like this. Like you Stuart been talking about doing Flanders with Niall and some Irish mates of his. Not to push if off topic but the start's changed hasn't it? So we can't use that hostel anymore. What's the gen on any cheap accommodation?

Off topic - yeah RVV starts and finishes in Oudenaarde now. The hostel is still easily doable (did it year before last) but its a half hour drive to the start.

I'm staying in a more upscale hotel with the Assos team as thats how they roll

It's a brilliant event- well worth doing. I rode MTB in past but cross would be fine too. I really wanted to do it again this year but hadn't realised it clashes with roubaix, which if promised a friend I'd join him on.

It's normally about 2hours drive from N1.
