In addition to a women’s training weekend in the Alps and an epic 200 mile solo UK ride [well done Ben – ed], the May Bank Holiday weekend also saw London Phoenix road crews racing at events across the UK, and pick up some great results along the way…

Saturday

Robert Moore and LP Road Secretary Peter Richardson rode the Hampshire RC 10 Time Trials and both clocked fantastic times. Robert said: “A really nice atmosphere at the event, all very friendly folk including my parents’ next door neighbour who seemed to be one of the organisers, how random! And who can argue with free tea and excellent cakes too.”

Robert ended with an amazing 23:11 for his first ever TT, while Pete recorded 24.58 – a great result in his first Open TT in 3 years!

Meanwhile Alex Christians and David Murrell raced at the ECCA 2009 Festival at Hog Hill. We’re still awaiting final results and will add a full report when they come through, but it looks like Alex was in the points with David not far behind – so well done guys.

Sunday

Sunday saw more racing with Richard Lam and Robert Moore racing on public roads at SERRL Round 7, over a punishing loop that included 1300 metres of climbing, and at an average pace of 23.5 mph. Robert pushed hard all the way and picked up 8 more BC points with an impressive 6th place, with Richard not far behind.

On the Track Alex Christians entered his first Omnium at Herne Hill, which consisted of a series of five races and heats. As expected Alex shone throughout and battled hard, ending the day in 4th position overall. With a new bike on its way it’s only a matter of time before Alex gets a toe clipped onto the podium – well done!

Meanwhile in Wales Nathan Smith, Jon Narbett and Ken Iino were taking part in the Forest of Dean Spring Classic Sportive, held on a beautiful 134km course that crossed all the major climbs in the area. Nathan and Ken were both comfortably within Gold standard times, with Jon not far behind. Special thanks goes to Flanders veteran Paul Chaplin, who was kind enough to let myself (Ken) and Nathan sleep on the floor of his Newport residence, while Stumpy (the cat) got the spare room.

Monday

The weekend ended with LP’s first Ladies’ Day Social ride, with new and existing members heading out through Hertfordshire for a 50km loop.
